Safe NeighborhoodsBy Alan M. SchwartzmanCandidate for Mayor; City of Benicia | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Everyone wants to live in a safe neighborhood. We in Benicia are fortunate to have quality police and fire departments. Each is run by dedicated leaders who along with our employees strive to maintain or improve response times, service levels, and along with appropriate enforcement measures, work to deter crime, respond quickly to medical emergencies, and minimize property damage. Our police force has been very successful lately in solving and preventing crime. Safe neighborhoods also means good streets and roads which is why I am pleased that this coming fiscal year we will be spending 1.6 million dollars on road improvements throughout the city. This includes a minimum $145,000 annually that I negotiated in the new garbage contract and is dedicated to roads. I supported additional traffic calming projects to slow vehicles, safe routes to school to protect our children, the High School signal project, the State Park bicycle/pedestrian overpass project, the improved graffiti ordinance, the bicycle/ pedestrian connection to the Benicia Bridge and pushed to enhance our traffic division. I will continue to support efforts to maintain and/or improve safety throughout our town |
