Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Modesto; District 6

My name is Douglas Dyrssen, and I'm running for the District 6 Council seat in our City of Modesto, where I have lived for the past twenty-eight years. My wife, Laura, and I have raised our son, Micah, here, and it's with his future in mind that I've chosen to pursue this opportunity. Similarly, our community is in the position to make an investment in our future, and that of our children's, or continue to pursue our present course that is not sustainable.

As a small business owner, I've learned first-hand of the bureaucratic nightmare of obtaining a business license; this fact is counter-intuitive to the spirit of entrepreneurship that's been the engine of the American economy. Outside industries and developers have exploited the welcoming quality our city was once renowned for, and the people of Modesto share in my desire to see honest business once again become the heart of our city's commerce.

I served in the U.S. Air Force and understand the expectations of loyalty that citizens would expect of a public servant. I ask you to join me in my campaign to return to the basics of government and put the citizens first at City Hall.
