Political Philosophy for Alan Zaffiro

My vision for our community is first and foremost: safe neighborhoods with affordable, dignified housing for all who choose to live here. There is no reason we cannot achieve this if everyone who owns property simply thinks beyond themselves to what is best for their community and their tenants - a community with first-class parks and tree-lined streets that make the Village an appealing place to live and sets an example of community pride. I want the Village to be a haven for small business, businesses that give back to the community, take pride in their operation and surroundings, are family-oriented and employ our residents. Our employees, who maintain our Village and keep us safe, should work for a government who takes care of them in turn and treats them like family. Happy employees provide the best customer service. I believe in activist local government, a government that works hard to improve our image, sets and enforces appropriate property maintenance and development standards, and one that gets involved on the ground rebuilding the community. We need to work toward a time when more people own their homes and apartments, there are fewer rental units, and landlords take care of their property as if they lived there themselves. I believe it is the job of village government to build the stage on which a successful community can thrive; that is, meeting our core needs: safety, infrastructure, parks, cost-effective waste collection and recycling, enforcing standards for property maintenance and conduct, creating an environment that attracts investment to the community and encourages ownership. Being the mayor of an older community is a heavy responsibility. In these uncertain times and with state and federal cut backs, I believe that we need a firm yet compassionate hand on the wheel to meet future challenges. I am prepared to continue the work for you to keep Golf Manor a great community in which to live, play, work, and raise a family. |
