Vision for Culver City's FutureBy Jim B. ClarkeCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Culver City | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Jim will bring together all of Culver City's stakeholders - businesses, non-profits and residents - to collaborate on creating a vision for Culver City's future. When Harry Culver founded Culver City in 1915, he envisioned family-oriented neighborhoods as well as a thriving business community. He spied Thomas Ince making a movie on Ballona Creek and persuaded him to open a movie studio in Culver City. Two more studios followed and soon Culver City became the "Heart of Screenland," our motto today. One hundred years later, we need to create a vision for the Culver City of the future. As your City Councilmember, I'll convene a panel of residents and businesses to work on their Vision for Culver City's future. Here's one thought about one of my Visions for Culver City: Each year, Culver City hosts IndieCade, the International Festival of Independent (video) Games and we receive a lot of publicity around the world for this event. Let's make Culver City the hub of the video gaming industry! As your Councilmember, I'll make a concerted effort to attract a cluster of gaming businesses to locate in Culver City. These are high-tech, high-paying, clean industry jobs that appeal to young and bright individuals who will be attracted to our downtown restaurants and nightlife. These businesses can generate revenues to help us meet our financial shortfalls. That's just one suggestion. I would like to hear yours!
