My name is Jonathan Hatami. I'm 42 years old. I was born in New York City. When I was almost five-years-old, my family moved to the San Fernando Valley. In 1983, my family purchased our first home in Canyon Country. I attended and graduated from Canyon High in 1987. I went on to College of the Canyons, but eventually enlisted in the US Army. After completing two enlistments, one as a Light Infantry soldier, and a second as a Military Police Sergeant, I was honorably discharged in 1996 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. I went back to College of the Canyons, and then on to California State University Northridge. After receiving my Bachelor of Arts, I attended law school at the University of Nebraska College of Law. After graduating law school, I clerked for Judge Sievers of the Nebraska Court of Appeals. I'm married to a beautiful woman named, Roxanne. Roxanne also grew up in Santa Clarita, and attended and graduated from Valencia High. She is currently a Deputy Sheriff on patrol right here in Santa Clarita. Roxanne, our German Shepherd named Saxon, and I live in Canyon Country. I have an Associate of Science (highest honors) in Criminal Justice from Monterey Peninsula College, a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) from California State University Northridge in Sociology/Criminology, and a Juris Doctorate (with distinction) from the University of Nebraska College of Law. I have passed four bar exams (California, Nebraska, New York, and New Jersey). I am currently a Deputy District Attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. I work as a felony trial attorney in the Antelope Valley Branch Office, prosecuting serious and violent felons, many of whom are gang members. My Mom was run over by a drunk driver near Chi Chi's about 3 years ago. She almost died. The person who committed this crime was prosecuted and recently sent to prison. It took time, but my Mom recovered. I feel that this life-changing event gave me time to reflect on my life and what I can bring to my community. I care about my community, my city, and I believe that I can represent the citizens of the Santa Clarita. |
