My name is: Michael Flake My age is: 46 My occupation is: Civil Engineer Education and Qualifications: My top priorities are fiscal responsibility, open government, and quality neighborhoods. I am a vice president with a national engineering consulting firm. I served honorably in the US Army as a reconnaissance scout; graduated from UC Davis in civil engineering; and worked in management at Caltrans. I have experience with balancing budgets, hiring personnel, and negotiating contracts. I served the City of Pleasant Hill as follows: 2000-2012 on the Citizens Advisory Commission on Redevelopment; 2001-2002 on the General Plan Task Force; and 1999-2001 on the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Contra Costa Transportation Authority. I commit to making a detailed review of all line items of the budget to avoid deficit spending with a focus upon unusual expenditures and rising pension costs. I am dedicated to "daylighting" City activities and making information readily accessible to the public with longer review time. No more subcommittees that operate without public record; workshops that function without open dialogue; and surreptitious activities to promote taxes. I am against high-density residential development; new developments must match the character and quality of adjacent neighborhoods. I will strive to attract new business and support actions that improve our property values. To learn more, please feel free to contact me at Mike_Flake@yahoo.com |
