I was appointed in July of 2004 as a Director for Ambrose Recreation and Park District. In November of the same year I ran unopposed. In 2008, I ran again against 10 candidates, and I was elected with the most votes. During the past 4 years, I am proud to report that I have participated in all of the Ambrose activities that were provided free to the community. For example: The Healthy and Safe Halloween celebration which was partnered by other non-profit organization. The event showcased a fabulous animal show and gave valuable tips on enjoying the occasion. This event was participated by local residents and students from the After School Program. The Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration. This event is in partnership with non-profit organizations and the Bay Point Chamber of Commerce and has been on going for the last two years. Attendees enjoyed carriage rides and the food spread. The event also included collecting can food for the homeless people in Bay Point. A few days after, another event occurred wherein Santa Claus came to Ambrose and shared free pancake breakfast with everyone. Easter Egg Hunt Event was held during the spring and was another win with local business and residents. Lastly, we had a Community Yard Sale which was in partnership with the Bay Point Chamber of Commerce. This event occurred in the late summer. Despite the challenging economic times, Ambrose Recreation and Park District is financially strong, because with the other directors, I have worked to develop policies to create new revenue, make the hard decisions to stay within the budget, and continue to improve the infrastructure of the district along with increasing the activities. Current management absolutely has dealt with numerous challenges in a constructive manner and has advised the board practically. One of the many challenges is the aging infrastructure of the Community Center and Ambrose Park. Today the Community Center is in great shape with some upgrades despite the age. Ambrose Park will soon have a great Water Feature park for all to enjoy as the Ambrose pool restoration project gets on its way in the next couple of months. I want to continue to serve and shape this community which includes Bay Point and the Oakhills area of Pittsburg in a positive, responsible, and constant manner by continuing my perfect attendance record, being mindful of the budget and district expenditures; even if we have to make the hard decisions. Also, maintain the district's infrastructure in good condition, more importantly continue to nurture the relationships the district has developed and build more partnerships so we can increase participation of the community in a positive and healthy activity. |
