My Name: Harmesh Kumar, Ph.D. My Age: 53
- My Occupation: Licensed clinical psychologist and businessman. Recognized by California State Senate and various other renowned organizations for selfless community service over the past two decades. Resident of Concord for more than 20 years.
Education and Qualifications
Years in the Service of Community:
- Currently, serving on the Measure Q Committee, City of Concord
- Served as Chair and Commissioner on the Human Relations Commission, City of Concord.
- Founded Hume Center in 1993 - A non-profit Mental Health Agency in Concord and created 20+ permanent and 30+ yearly training jobs in Concord in Mental Health field.
- Psychologist with 27 years experience in individual and community mental health.
- Small business owner with proven track records and experience in meeting the real challenges and creating various sustainable jobs, meeting the payroll, treating employees with respect and fairness.
- Also engaged in providing solutions in our community to complicated problems.
- Served on the boards of various non-profit agencies including Monument Community Partnership and currently serving as an executive board member of the Interfaith Council of the Contra Costa County for 10+ years,
- Started the Annual Spring Festival since 2004 in downtown Concord.
My Vision For a Better Life:
- Strive to be dynamic, proactive, innovative, and plan for the future focusing on teamwork and empowerment.
- Cut red tape and make the city more business friendly. Revitalize the downtown and areas around Bart Stations to make them a vibrant business and community hubs; Promote economic viability of the region such as Naval Weapon Station for quality growth e.g. by bringing manufacturing jobs, outside investment (EB5), promote small scale industries for a stronger middle class.
- Affordable housing for our veterans, seniors, teachers, public safety service providers.
- Create world-class education and training center in Concord; Promote peace, harmony and social justice agenda.
- Reduce truancy in our local schools. Open more after school programs and boys and girls clubs and/or like CYC, gang prevention programs with linguistic and cultural sensitivities. Find permanent solutions to homelessness, mental illness, and domestic violence; Take real steps to create public safety and improve quality of life with a dream of a zero crime rate in our city with main focus on prevention rather than reactive intervention.
- Allocation of city budget based on the needs of the people not based on special interest groups.
- Collaborate and coordinate with private business and non-profit organizations to provide the best quality services to local residents. Help in finding transitional housing for homeless with on-site mental health services.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other faith based organizations to come up with service model to deal with the homeless, mentally ill and seniors with dementia and also to reduce prejudice and promote social justice.
- Find innovative solutions for affordable child care for city employees and other small business owners.
- Outside the box thinking to serve our community by using collective wisdom and inner voice rather than shallow intelligence.
