My family and I have lived in Lafayette for the past seven years where I've been a member of the Parks, Trails and Recreation Commission. I'm running for City Council because I'd like to help keep Lafayette a safe, vibrant, and beautiful community that serves the needs of all our residents. I see two key challenges facing our community especially given the State's budget cuts and this economy. It's clear we'll need to rely more on our own resources to: 1. Affordably keep our community safe while maintaining/improving our roads and other infrastructure. 2. Meet our obligation to develop new housing and businesses without sacrificing our semi-rural environment and quality of life. Specifically we need to: Creatively look at new ways to manage our fire and police resources without sacrificing service. Add carefully thought-out senior housing and community centers to generate new revenues without impacting our school and road infrastructure. Improve biking and walking access. Improving pathways and trails will reduce traffic while providing the opportunity for people to exercise. Making it easier to access BART and shopping will reduce traffic and parking issues. Expand the use of public transportation to reduce traffic. There may be opportunities for the establishment of small bus systems, like the successful senior bus program. School busing could also be improved to reduce driving kids to school. As a business executive with over twenty years of experience in finance and large infrastructure management, as well as my experience with public safety, I want to use my proven leadership skills to represent Lafayette as a unique and leading community If you give me your vote, I will never forget that I represent you. I will work tirelessly to ensure that Lafayette is a wonderful place to live. |
