Official Statement for Monica Wilson

My name is: Monica E. Wilson My age is: 44 My occupation is: College Dean Assistant Education and Qualifications: I want to bring a fresh look and team approach to city government. These have been tough times, but Antioch can pull it together and move forward. We need leadership. I'm ready to make a difference and lead this turnaround. As a member of the Economic Development Commission, I have pushed for downtown revitalization to breathe life back into Antioch. The Commission is an advisory board to the Council. Through efforts on the Blight/Shop Antioch Sub-committee, we encouraged a program to reduce the number of shopping carts abandoned in town. When elected to the City Council I can do more- including promoting Antioch and encouraging companies to locate here. Budget concerns are real; but so are threats to public safety. During a ride-along, I heard and saw the difficulties facing our men and women in uniform. Rising crime rates must be addressed immediately. I will work to find funding to increase the number of officers protecting us. As a Councilmember, I will help keep our road and transit improvements on track and fight to protect the Delta. As a track athlete, I came to Antioch to compete in the Stapleton Relays. I remember immediately feeling connected to the city and the people I met at the competition. Those fond memories and its many attractive qualities led me to make Antioch my home. I respectfully ask for your vote. Let's move Antioch forward. |
