Candace Barry has been a Pomona District 4 resident for nearly 20 years. After graduating from UCLA, she spent several years in Washington D.C. working with at-risk youth, becoming a paralegal, and even becoming a small business owner as she formed her own paralegal company.

As a candidate for the Pomona City Council in District 4, Candace plans to improve our city by ensuring resident safety through support for public safety, beautification of Pomona, developing a master plan to create and retain local businesses and providing youth the opportunities to succeedin a vibrant community.

In 2005, Candace led the Young Ladies of Tomorrow and Young Gentlemen of Tomorrow youth mentoring programs. These clubs seek to promote self-respect and leadership in youth through working together in community service. Additionally, Candace organized the Gift of Time (GOT) Mentoring Collaborative in Pomona and help promote and coordinate mentoring initiatives in Pomona.

Currently, Barry is the Chair of the Pomona Parks and Recreation Commission, Chair of the Pomona Valley Human Relations Council, and Chair of Pomona Advocates for Communication and Trust Committee and is deeply invested in the youth of Pomona as the President of the Pomona Pop Warner Football and Cheer. Candace continues her work in the community as a delegate for the Tri-City Mental Health Center, which provides mental health services to families and individuals in the communities of Pomona,Claremont and La Verne.

Among her accomplishments, Barry has been honored with the Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2004 by the Pomona Valley Human Relations Council; the Community and Excellence Award in Civic Service in 2006 and 2008 from The Inland Valley News. In 2007 Candace organized Pomona's first Woman of the Year +Unsung Heroines luncheon and was recognized by Congresswoman Grace Napolitano as an Unsung Heroine for her work with the Young Ladies and Young Gentlemen of Tomorrow Club.

Candace is also the former Co-Chair of the Pomona Youth and Family Master Plan, a collaborative of non-profits, public agencies, the City of Pomona and others that came together to bring much needed resources for the youth of the City of Pomona. Through her involvement, she was crucial in bridging gaps with the city's diverse communities. She has worked closely with the City of Pomona's social programs as an advocate for youth.

Candace Barry was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Los Angeles, California. A graduate of Crenshaw High School, she earned her Bachelors of Arts in English from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). At an early age, she learned the importance of making a difference through community service. While attending Audubon Junior High, as a member of its Leadership Club, she actively campaigned for the late Tom Bradley, during his Los Angeles Mayoral race. Candace and her husband Fred have made Pomona District 4 their home for a long time and continue to look forward their active participation in the city for years to come.
