A history of serving others.By Shawn L. HubbardCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Victorville | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I have a burning desire to serve and help others. All my life, I've proudly contributed to the community. I worked in law enforcement to make the city a better place to live, and currently work in the transportation sector so that people have the goods they need to live happily and productively. And in 2010, I was honored by the Truckload Carriers Association as Highway Angel of the Year for freeing a man who was trapped in a burning car and pulling him to safety. Now I want to put that experience and commitment to service to use for the benefit of the citizens here in Victorville. As a former business owner, I appreciate the struggles businesses face in this tough economic environment. Our city relies on business for jobs, taxes and quality of life. I want to help Victorville return to it's former glory so that it can become a shining beacon in the High Desert, so that we can attract smart and talented workers to the area, and set an example for other cities to emulate. "Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. " Martin Luther King Jr. |
