President Baber's comments on some of the "problems solved" by the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board.Taxpayer Protections - La Mesa-Spring Valley is one of the best run districts in the State with balanced budgets and transparent finances. We cut our management salaries by 5% to survive the lean years in state financing. We are the first district in the County to enact a bond purchase policy that exceeds the tough standards set by the County Treasurer and the San Diego Taxpayers Association. Student Achievement - This year La Mesa-Spring Valley made the greatest improvement in student test scores in English and the second greatest improvement in Math of any major San Diego County school district. Innovative Programs - We are constantly working to create new innovative programs to improve our student's educational experience. For example, I am strongly in favor of converting La Mesa Middle School to a Performing Arts Magnet School. We supported the amazing efforts of Kathleen Brand to receive the ASLA 2012 Community Grant for the Highwood Park Outdoor Environmental Education Laboratory. Kathleen worked on the design program with the La Mesa Middle and Helix High School students and teachers. The final product will be a master plan for Highwood Park and a unique educational experience for all our students who participated. |
