|
After serving a four-year term, Jerome M. "Jerry" Kern was re-elected to the Oceanside City Council in November 2010. It gives him great pleasure to serve the residents of Oceanside, and he is honored by the trust and confidence given to him by the people. He hopes to continue to be a voice for the community at large. Jerry and his wife, Blake, are native Californians who have lived in Oceanside since 1975. They have two adult children, Justin, who is employed by Oceanside Unified School District, and Kasia, who lives and works in the Bay Area. Jerry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University, and his Social Science and Business teaching credential from Chapman University. He also earned an Associate of Arts degree in English and History from the University of Maryland (European Division), while serving overseas in the United States Air Force. Since coming to Oceanside Jerry has been extremely involved in the community at large. He has coached Little League baseball, sat as committee chair for the Old Mission Montessori School Christmas in July annual craft fair, and served on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees. Some of these have included the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, the SeaGaze Steering Committee, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Harbor Days logistics chair, and the El Corazon Oversight Committee to name just a few. In 1999, Jerry and Blake were also co-founders of Pacific View Charter School, the first charter school to be approved in Oceanside, where they also taught. As a former president of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Jerry was instrumental in bringing the Defenders of Freedom Parade to Oceanside, which rightfully honored our military troops. |
