Accomplishments for the past 4 years as your City CouncilmanFellow Ripon Citizens, unlike a non-incumbent I have a record to run on. My question to all the citizens of Ripon: is the City being well run. I would say YES! The parks are green and mowed (Thank you to those Citizens who have helped maintain our parks), the Police continue to keep crime down the last four years, and the garbage, water and sewer systems are well maintained. Compare Ripon's record with Stockton and other communities that have either declared bankruptcy and/or continue to run in the red with collapse knocking at their door. Has it been easy NO, we had to make cuts to employee salaries and we had to retire and layoff 13 employees. These decisions had to be made and your present council did what was needed to balance the budget. Now for the good news. The city budget is in the black and we reinstated those employee salaries that were cut (I am very happy about that VOTE). We have authorized the hiring of some part time employees to help public works and the animal shelter. We have been able to rebuild our City cash reserve needed for day to day cash flow and any future emergency expenses. Now for the nice additions to the City prior to the State robbing our redevelopment funds. The council voted to build the Clock tower. The Council also voted to build the Main St. Historical Arches. We were able to put in additional parking for downtown. These projects were all completed without any outstanding debt to the City, using a combination of redevelopment funds and grant funding. |
