Political Philosophy for Marilyn M. Singleton, MD

"Let us not seek the Republican answer nor the Democratic answer, but the right answer." John F. Kennedy I - like many Americans - am fed up with the never-ending recession, barely literate students with no sense of right and wrong, and empty rhetoric and platitudes. I am running for Congress because this is a government of "We the People". I would like to do my part to bring citizen legislators back to Washington. I have chosen to run as a nonpartisan candidate because I find that there is more that unites us than divides us. There is power in independence. Just as I have had when voting over the years, I will have the freedom to put common sense above a "party line". I'll get behind anybody with a good idea. My allegiance will be to my constituents, not a political party. I am running for Congress because the career politicians seem to have forgotten for whom they work. I'm tired of politicians passing laws they have not read. I am tired of politicians who refuse to answer questions from constituents who disagree with their point of view. I am tired of politicians who say they want to bring us together, and then tear us apart by putting us into hyphenated groups of voting blocs. Most of all, I am tired of politicians who say they want equal opportunity but forget that part of this equal opportunity is the opportunity for their constituents to choose schools, to choose how they retire, and to choose their doctors. As your representative, I will always promote and support legislation that limits Washington to its proper role in our lives. I will promote policies that renew our spirit of personal responsibility and encourage community solutions to social problems. I will fight for the public's right to know the cost and consequences of every piece of legislation and regulation. |
