Candidate StatementBy Chester JengCandidate for Council Member; City of La Habra Heights | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My first contact with La Habra Heights was in 1998 while driving on Hacienda Blvd to see a dental practice in La Habra that I was interested in joining. I was impressed with the quiet and rural beauty of the Heights. After 15 years, my feelings have not changed. The Heights is still the quiet and rural community that I fell in love with. My family and I were fortunate enough to find a house in this quiet, rural community we proudly call our home since 2008. My educational experience is a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry in San Francisco, Master of Laws in International Taxation from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida, and a Juris Doctor degree from Pacific West College of Law. I have been a small business owner since January 1999. I am the owner dentist of a dental office on La Habra Blvd in our neighboring city of La Habra and a law office on Harbor Blvd in Fullerton. I am also involved with educating our future. I have been an appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Restorative Dentistry since 2006 at Loma Linda University and Professor of Law at Pacific West College of Law. My community involvement includes serving as an appointed member of the Citizen Oversight Committee, Measure U, Corona-Norco Unified School District from 2006 to 2008, a current member of the Advisory Board, Delta Dental of California, member of Board of Directors on the Chinese American Dental Society of Southern California, and current Secretary of Board of Directors, Chinese American Dental Society of Southern California. If elected, my top priorities are: 1. Bring back 24 hour Sheriff patrols 2. Fiscal responsibility/financial sustainability 3. Preservation of our rural community 4. Serving as the facilitator between residents and the city Our rural community is very unique as we are within two metropolitan counties of Los Angeles, and Orange County, but yet, it feels like we are hundreds of miles away tucked in the mountains. If elected, I will continue to protect and preserve our rural community, and not let high density housing enter our community. I want to know what our residents are concerned with and work with our residents to resolve any problems that they may have with our city. I want to be there for our residents and will be reachable to our residents either by office hours, phone, or email. Lastly, as a small business owner, I understand the importance of managing cash flow. If elected, I will watch and manage our hard earned tax payer dollars as I would in my own small business. I am reachable to our residents at: dentistlawyer@Yahoo.com |
