1. How would you promote good nutrition in your schools?
|
Answer from Ed Coyle:
In order to promote good nutrition in schools, we need to educate the students about the various food groups and the impact a healthy diet, or lack thereof, has on performance, both physical and mental performance. Having five children with varying tastes, I realize it is also important to provide a diverse enough selection that the students will find healthy food to their liking on the menu, otherwise the student may not choose to eat the food presented.
Answer from Sean Carpenter:
We continually work with our partner, Aramark, to provide better tasting and more nutritious lunches for our students. In my role as Chairman of our Property & Finance Committee, I met with key stakeholders from both Aramark and our business office to discuss how the new nutritional guidelines impact our district, and how we can ensure that we are providing healthy and appealing meals to our students. I will continue this oversight moving forward.
Answer from Maria Armandi Pimley:
The role of the School Board in promoting good nutrition in our schools includes collaboration with our food services contractor,Aramark that ensures healthy yet appetizing meals for our students. We must also promote various components of our curriculum that teach students how and why they should maintain a healthy lifestyle. Since, like with many other lessons in life, the learning and development of good eating and exercise habits begin at home, we should collaborate with and support parents as they strive to set healthy examples for their children.
Answer from Pam LaTorre:
I support good nutrition education in our curriculum and healthy and appealing food choices for our children.
