Political Philosophy for Rebecca Douglass
Candidate for |

|
I am running for re-election because I am committed to helping all the children in our school district achieve at the highest levels, while maintaining fiscal responsibility. I bring to the job experience and training in education and literacy, 12 years service to our students via PTA, and a willingness to put in the time to educate myself so I can make smart decisions about the issues facing our schools today. Fiscal responsibility means making sure that we are able to hire and retain the best teachers and staff, while always keeping an eye on the balanced budget. Good schools improve property values and are essential to the community and the nation. I am a tireless advocate for reading, literacy and libraries. My background and training are in education, and I have worked for 12 years for our local public libraries. As an author of children's books, I understand the importance of reading to the scholastic achievement of all groups of students in our diverse community, including English Learners. During my time on the Board, teachers have made great progress in addressing the achievement gap and improving instruction to all groups, including EL. I will always research, read, and weigh the issues before the Board in an informed manner. I am an advocate for the whole child. I work to keep a focus in our District on health and wellness for our children, as well as on the arts. |
