What services do you believe should be considered basic and essential for the Village? Answer from Natalie Wolf: Police, fire, and maintenance are basic services that Amberley Village provides for residents of Amberley Village. I believe our residents choose to live in Amberley partly because we set high standards for the quality of our police and fire response time, as well as the personal relationship many residents have with our safety staff. Maintenance is what sets a community apart. We take pride in the appearance of our Village and the Amberley Village maintenance staff allows us to travel on well-maintained roads and enjoy clean parks. 2. How would you balance the Village Budget? Answer from Natalie Wolf: Amberley's budget is currently in balance, but it is done in a precarious manner that does not provide room for major emergencies. Nor does it provide any leeway for the things that make our Village a great place to live. Police and Fire staff levels have been cut to marginal levels. Maintenance staff has been cut to the point that residents are already noticing increased incidences of trash along the main roadways and shortened leaf and brush collection times. This is not a balanced approach to providing a balanced budget and our community deserves more. Opportunities to provide amenities to our residents through the use of grant monies are being ignored because of the fear of future costs or increased maintenance manhours. I am not in favor of this short-sighted approach. 3. Citizen engagement is important to the health of local government. In what ways do you support citizen engagement? Answer from Natalie Wolf: I support open government and open meetings. Council members represent the residents and should engage the opinions of residents. As chair of the Public Outreach committee, I have promoted increased awareness of our Village website, <http://www.amberleyvillage.org/>, re-introduced a semi-annual mailed newsletter, as well as kept residents informed of Village issues through the publication of my own personal blog.
