Mario Civera is a military veteran, legislator, small business owner, and life-long resident of Delaware County. Civera has more than 37 years of experience in state and local government and currently serves as Vice Chairman of Delaware County Council. Mario served his country with distinction in the United State Air Force and has been a self-employed businessman since 1971. Civera served as a member of the State House of Representatives from 1980 through 2010 was elected twice by his colleagues to serve as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, where he was responsible for helping to craft Pennsylvania's annual budget of about $28 billion. Mario has owned and operated Civera's Delicatessen in Drexel Hill for nearly 25 years. He has used his experience as a small business owner to promote job creation and the growth of small businesses as a Member of Count Council. A graduate of Upper Darby High School, Mario served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force.He also served a member of the Upper Darby Board of Commissioners from 1974 to 1992, a position that provided Mario the opportunity to learn the importance of a well-organized municipal government. On the issue of health care Mario was instrumental in the Healthy PA initiative designed to reduce health insurance costs, retain doctors in Pennsylvania, and improve the quality of care for patients. Mario has also been a long-time champion of public safety issues, working to improve 911 services and training, authoring legislation to expand emergency telephone service for all Pennsylvanians, and co-founding the Pennsylvania Firefighters and Emergency Services Legislative Caucus to promote issues important to our emergency services personnel. Mario wants to continue his public service on the county level, putting his budget experience, knowledge of state government and other knowledge to use for local residents. |
