Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Gary Abrams

Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Culver City

This information is provided by the candidate

The "Tarek M. Baydoun's" Philosophy" the city as been changed.

City Council elections are important. The local level is where we, as residents, should have the most impact on the day-to-day lives of ourselves and our neighbors.

Voters should determine how our tax dollars are spent and determine what takes priority + roads, safety, and education.

I look forward to starting a conversation with you and your family, to hear about what is most important in your day-to-day lives. I will hear your voice, listen with care, and work for you and the issues that are most important to you.

We should all be part of the process that builds upon our progress to shape a positive future + Because this is Our Culver City.

If elected, I will work to grow our community wealth, build upon the great work of those before, to make our city an even better place to live, work, and raise a family. This campaign is about putting Culver City first.

We have no doubt faced and continue to face very serious challenges and changes at all levels of our community; economic, political, social, safety and educational.

There are challenges to our culture and the moral fabric of our society, the family structure, the education of our children and of the deteriorating affordable housing stock in many areas of the City.

We are challenged to make decisions on how and where to allocate our City's diminished resources while the needs of our residents continue to increase.

But these challenges should not have to ever define Culver City. Culver City should be defined by its unique ability to leverage the honest and studious character of its residents to overcome these challenges.

No one person can solve all of Culver City's problems. It is going to take people who are willing to come together and work across the isles to bring about a change that is desperately needed.

Personally I vow to work diligently to bring together the different cultures in our community, as it is our differences we should embrace. It is our diversity that makes us strong.

Let's work together to extinguish the fear that sets us apart. Working together we can restore the pride and confidence of our city.

City Council must be willing to work with our school district, the business community, and our residents. Must be willing to look ahead to the long term goals and offer long term solutions, instead of trying to find the quick fix.

A responsive and professional government makes efficient use of tax payer's money and maintains our public property which is our common wealth.

For too long our city has been divided in both direction and purpose. It is my hope in this election we can come together and bring fresh ideas to the table and restore the confidence and pride in Culver City. I won't kid you it isn't easy.

Putting Culver City first means putting the people in our community first, because they are the essence of the community and empowers us to make a decisive change in the direction for the future of our city.

Putting Culver City first means transcending personal bias and relegating personal interest in favor the greater good and helping our neighbors because it's the right thing to do.

Putting Culver City first requires that our elected officials and public servants set aside ideological or personal differences to attend to the service of the residents.

I vow to invest in our city's youth, our city's future lies in their opportunity for education. We must recognize that all children regardless of the ability have gifts that we can nurture. We must encourage them with the motivation and the tools they need to succeed.

I vow to work with the school district to reduce school maintenance cost.

There is only one candidate like me. Family comes first, place others before myself. Politics is less about me and more about us.

That is why I am running.
