Rob McCord believes Pennsylvania can be a place where if you work hard and play by the rules, you can make it.

The cornerstone of McCord's approach to governing is the pursuit of economic security for Pennsylvanians. His work as treasurer to promote efficiency and positive returns on investment have made the Pennsylvania Treasury Department a profit center for the commonwealth - one that pays for itself many times over each year.

McCord believes the route to greater economic security and a more prosperous Pennsylvania starts with investments in education. For him, education is a deeply personal issue. After his parents divorced when McCord was four years old, his mom moved he and his brother to Montgomery County because of the great public schools, which gave McCord the benefit of being in classrooms with some very talented teachers and support professionals who had the tools to help him overcome some learning/reading challenges. As a result, McCord did well enough in school to get into Harvard and, later, Penn's Wharton School. Without great public schools, he would never have had a chance to pursue his dreams.

Given his belief in public education, that issue will be his top priority as governor, because everything else - job creation, economic development, crime rates, public health, and civic engagement - all improve with a better educated public.

McCord intends to be the "invest and innovate" governor - someone who targets resources and who improves fairness and efficiency in a way that generates the greatest return for Pennsylvania taxpayers in terms of job opportunities, economic development, and stronger, more vibrant communities.
