How we got Here and What is NeededBy Jim MorenoCandidate for Supervisor; County of Orange; Supervisorial District 2 | |

Pensions have been a hot topic for politicians for the past several years and one that always gets the attention of the voter. In my view there is no quick fix. Reform, as boasted by several candidates cannot be done out of hand. It has taken years of questionable decisions by Governing Boards, such as the Board of Supervisors, and it will take time to reach a point of clarity to stabilize costs into the future. The same Boards that "want reform" today were the Boards that agreed to the terms of current long term pension costs and liability. I would work to revisit the pension costs and have a study done that could guide the Board of Supervisors towards equitable pension levels into the future. When asked by the "Feet to the Fire" interview panel I explained how I would personally use any pension benefit I qualified for as your Supervisor. I would place funds in a special account for a grant program in support of non-profit education and children based programs in the Second Supervisorial District and set an example to other Supervisors. |
