Statement of AMANDA JACKSON MILLER,Candidate for Governing Board Member Soquel Union Elementary School District

I have three children, two of whom attend elementary school in our district. As a regular classroom volunteer for six years and vice president of the Home & School Club for four years, I have led many successful fundraisers and organized a variety of activities to enrich the classroom for all students. I also served on district-wide committees before being appointed as a Soquel Union Elementary School District board member in December 2013.

A product of local public schools, I earned a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a J.D. from Santa Clara, after which I served as an attorney for a nonprofit domestic violence agency and shelter. In recent years, I have been a CASA advocate and Girl Scout troop leader.

As a parent volunteer, I understand the issues facing our local public schools, and I have applied collaborative problem solving and critical thinking to improve them. This experience gives me the perspective and insight to serve as Trustee. I would be honored to receive your vote.
