At age 13 I began working on my family's cattle ranch in Colorado where I spent the next fifteen years working long summers and many full years on the ranch. The hard work and long days there have given me a lasting appreciation for the farming and ranching community. Upon graduation from college, I was accepted into an agricultural exchange program and worked for three months on a family farming operation in the Allgaeu area of Bavaria, Germany and established lifelong friendships.

I am committed to my community. I am an active member and past president of Modesto Gateway Rotary Club. I am especially proud to be a member of the Community Hospice Foundation Board, where I have also been chairperson of the annual Golf Fore Hospice tournament. I am a volunteer for many Hospice events and support the annual Hospice Gala as well as other Foundation and Friends of Hospice events. I am a member of the Latino Community Roundtable and a member of St Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank where I also serve as a lector/reader.

I enjoy bicycling, golf and baseball attending A's, Giants and Modesto Nuts games.
