I was born and raised in Ukiah. I am 35 and the mother of two wonderful daughters Kasie age 16 and Andie age 4. I am a business owner and am self-employed as an Independent Insurance Agent with JLB Insurance Services located in Downtown Ukiah. I've been attending Ukiah City Council meetings with my dad since Junior High and now I watch the City Council, Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors meetings online. Local politics has long been a passion of mine and I've had intentions of running for office for at least a decade. The City Council needs someone that is connected to the community and has a proven dedication of volunteering to help the community at large, especially projects revolving around youth and business. I started my volunteer work in the community in high school volunteering along side my dad every Christmas Eve for the Ukiah Valley Christmas Effort. I later joined the Ukiah Skate Park Committee and brought my oldest daughter Kasie to countless meetings and fund-raising events. I volunteered with the Ukiah Main Street Program and received an award for my dedication to promoting downtown businesses. After years of serving as an Ambassador I was invited to serve as a Board Member for the Greater Ukiah Chamber of Commerce. I was on the Board for six years and as Chair of the Board for three years. In that capacity I served as a liaison for numerous groups including the Ukiah Main Street Program, and the TOT Committee. I was voted Volunteer of the Year for the Chamber in 2012. I was one of the initial members that created the Ukiah Women in Business Networking group, serving on the board of that organization as well. I was a member of South Ukiah Rotary and now I am very proud to be a part of the revived charter of the Active 20-30 Club of Ukiah. 20-30 is an International Club with many chapters throughout North and South America and is an opportunity for young people age 20-39 to socialize and give back to the youth of their community. I am currently serving as President Elect. I want to make a difference in my community. I want to be the council member that knows how the community at large feels about the issues and has the back bone to voice their opinion and not just be a wall flower. |
