I am married to Eula Ward Nelson. Eula is a retired AT&T Manager and she taught Elementary School after retiring from AT&T. Currently she is a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children and a Commissioner on the Orange County Juvenile Justice Commission.

We have four children, Kim a retired Master Sergeant from the Army, Tony a Real Estate Broker/Owner in Rancho Cucamonga, Phyllis a Business Analyst with Chevron in Houston, and Brandon, Vice President, Associate General Counsel with JetBlue Airways in New York and five grandchildren.

I am a candidate for the Villa Park City Council and I have a wealth of experience in public, association, private, and volunteer organizations that make me well qualified for the position. With my financial background I believe I can make a significant contribution to the City.

Public Experience I was appointed by Orange County Supervisor Bill Campbell as a Trustee of the Orange County Cemetery District in 2003. I have served as Chair of the Board in 2006 and 2010 and currently Chair of the Board and Chair of the Finance Committee. As Chair of the Finance Committee I developed an investment strategy that yielded additional $1 million interest income to the District.

As Chair of the Board I was instrumental in the District being recognized as a District of Distinction and the District receiving the District Transparency of Excellence from the Special District Leadership Foundation. I was also recognized as a leader in special district governance by the Foundation.

I serve as Chair of the City of Villa Park Investment Advisory Committee where I helped to devise a conservative diversified investment strategy for the city that significantly improved the City's return on its investments and returned additional funds to the General Fund.

I have served as Board Member and Past Treasurer of the Villa Park Community Services Foundation where I was involved in Villa Park's 50th Anniversary Celebration and 50th Anniversary Gals as well as numerous other community activities.

Association Experience Have served on California Special Districts Association Board of Directors, Fiscal and Membership Committees since 2011.

Currently serve as a Director of the California Association of Public Cemeteries since 2008 and have Chaired various Committees.

Served as a Director of Pacific West Association of REALTORS® from 2004 to 2012 and as the organization's Secretary/Treasurer in 2005, 2009 and 2011.

Served as the 2007 President of the Pacific West Association of REALTORS® with over 15,000 members, the largest REALTORS® association in California and the fifth largest in the country.

Served as Director of the California Association of REALTORS® from 2004 to 2012 and Director of the National Association of REALTORS® for five years.

Volunteer Experience Served as a member of the 2002-2003 Orange County Grand Jury where I was Chair of the Administrative Agencies and Orientation Committees. Served as a Director of the Grand Jurors Association of Orange County for six years.

Served as Assistant Cub Master and Scout Master of Villa Park's Troop 850 and Vice President of Operations and Manager of a Villa Park Little League team. During my tenure as a Little League Manager my team was 20 and 2 and I managed the Villa Park All Star Team.

Business Experience More than 25 years' experience as a financial executive with two major corporations, Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) and Southern California Gas Company.

At ARCO I served as Controller of ARCO Transportation Alaska, Inc., Director and Treasurer of ARCO's Alaskan pipelines, ARCO Pipe Line Company and Kuparuk Pipeline Company and Chair of the Trans Alaska Pipeline Accounting Committee.

At Southern California Gas Company I held leadership responsibility for designing, implementing and managing financial systems and operational controls for the Natural Gas Vehicle Marketing Unit.

Education Graduated from California State University, Dominquez Hills with a B.A. in Economics, M.B.A in Finance from the University of Southern California.

I know the community and the City. I have a proven record of community leadership and business knowledge. My election will continue the fiscally conservative tradition of the City. I am the right man with the right experience and I ask for your vote.
