Joe Shaw is currently the Mayor Pro Tem of Huntington Beach, and has served on the City Council since 2010. As a councilman, he has served on the Board of the Orange County Sanitation District, and is currently serving on the Energy & Environment Committee of the Southern California Council of Governments and the Public Safety Committee of the League of Cities. In 2007, Joe was appointed to the Huntington Beach Planning Commission, and in 2009, was appointed to the Huntington Beach Public Works Commission. In 2009-2010, Joe served on Huntington Beach's Charter Review Commission, charged with updating and improving the city's governing document. He is currently President of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust. Joe was co-owner of the California Greetings retail gift store in downtown Huntington Beach for 5 years before selling the store in March 2007. He is a founding member of the Downtown Huntington Beach Business Improvement District, and served on the PR committee of the Huntington Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. In 2006,-2007, he came up with the concept and collaborated in the creation of Surf City Nights. He is an award-winning business owner, communicator and civic leader. Since 1991, Joe Shaw has been involved in non-profit communications and fundraising, working for The Wall/Las Memorias Latino AIDS Awareness Project, AIDS Service Center in Pasadena and the Braille Institute. Joe Shaw's excellence in conceiving and developing communications programs has resulted in Gold and Silver Advocate Awards from the Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Association, the Public Relations Society of America and numerous awards from the Public Communicators of Los Angeles. At the age of 26, Joe also created and designed Café Ole, a southwest-themed restaurant in Tulsa, Oklahoma nearing its 30th year in business. |
