Candidate for
Trustee; Sweetwater Union High School District; Trustee Area 3

I am a lifelong resident of Chula Vista, an alumnus of Sweetwater Schools, and most importantly a current parent of two students in the district.

Current Positions

I currently am the Area Director for a non-profit organization that supports and empowers persons with disabilities to achieve their life goals. I am a college instructor, and I serve as the Varsity Basketball Coach at High Tech High Chula Vista. I am very proud of all of these positions because they allow me to help and serve others while making a positive impact on the community. These are the same values that I will bring to the Sweetwater School Board.

In 2007 I was appointed by the City Managers of Imperial Beach and National City to be a member of the City of Chula Vista's Board of Ethics. As the current Chairman I have worked with the Board and City Attorney's Office to completely revise the City's Code of Ethics. I understand what it takes to get people to work together collaboratively. I also understand how to mediate disagreements and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be heard. We may not always agree, but we can always be respectful.

School Experience

I greatly enjoy serving my community through participation and in the past I was appointed to the school site councils for both Kellogg and Tiffany Elementary, when my daughters attended those schools. This has provided me with insight into school operations that I will use when making decisions as a school board member.

Education

I strongly believe in lifelong learning and I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management as well as a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership. I am currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership.

Other Experience

My broad range of experience and education has also allowed me to consult on many leadership and organizational development issues in San Diego organizations.

In 2013 I founded the servant leadership resource Serve and Lead. I have also used my knowledge in the area of business to help my wife start a small business in the Chula Vista area, Kurvy Inc. This is the same experience and education that I will bring to the school board as we move the district forward in a positive direction.

Family

My priorities are spending time with my family and serving my community. I currently live in the Eastern Chula Vista area with my wife Brandee, our three children, and dog Flash.
