Political Philosophy for Judith "Judy" Mitchell
Candidate for |
As a resident of Rolling Hills Estates for many years, I value our rural community and am committed to preserving the unique character of our city. I support maintenance and enhancements to our city's beautiful parks and to the recreational opportunities we provide with youth sports, tennis, and equestrian activities. I will continue to support policies that promote open space, riding and walking trails, and horse-keeping facilities. As a city council member, I strive to balance private interests with the interests of the community at large to reach fair, reasonable decisions that benefit our residents. The guiding principle is to find the solution which does the most good for the most people. This may require active dialogue in multiple city council meetings or committee meetings where both sides can work together to find a workable plan that everyone can accept. Most important is that each person has the opportunity to state his or her views and that everyone listens and respects each other's opinions and viewpoints. I support open government, strong public outreach, and complete transparency in the city's operations. It is most important that residents are informed of issues that may affect them. The city should provide information in various channels that aim to reach the majority of the city. I support and believe that an informed and actively involved community is the cornerstone of good government. I believe that citizens also have a duty to seek information, to participate in their government, to timely state their support and opposition to the issues. I support city management that is fiscally prudent with careful consideration of the needs of the city relative to projected long-term revenues and expenses. I support efforts to have a viable commercial center that serves the needs of Peninsula families. |
