Candidates' Forum Closing Statement

If there's anything I want you to take away from this debate it's this: As your future councilperson I am committed to listening to all of you. Not just the people who are outspoken. I will assess both sides of every issue and draw my own conclusions.

I have a proven ability to collaborate with our city's staff, to determine a common ground, develop solutions, and analyze information objectively, which will be an asset to the city council as we face crucial decisions. We need someone who understands Brisbane's traditions and values while also brining to the table a fresh perspective.

I will be alive to experience what happens at the Baylands. I am not only invested in this project because it will shape our city, but because this will directly impact me and the family I will one day raise here. That is why I am committed to advocating for what's right for Brisbane. I do not want to see housing at the Baylands because I am concerned about the health risk it poses and the shift in voting power it will create.

I am committed to advocating for our aging population by supporting programs that help seniors age in place. I will continue supporting young families and the development of more constructive outlets for Brisbane's teens. I stand behind revitalizing Crocker Park so it may be better utilized and creating an environment where our businesses can flourish.

In Brisbane we have major issues to address but many of you have told me that it's the lack of amenities, parking problems, and airplane noise that are also important. To me, there is no issue too small.

As we wrap up tonight I want to leave you with this quote from Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a few thoughtful citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Your vote makes a difference and your opinion matters. I respectfully ask for your vote and look forward to serving you. Together we will make Brisbane even better.
