|
Political Newcomer Political newcomer Nick Mraovich has entered the race for the 7th Congressional District seat now held by U.S. Representataive George Miller (D-CA)since 1974. (NOTE: Miller was also a newcomer when he initially won this seat almost 26 years ago.) As part of America's working families, Nick will bring a new, fresh prospective to Washington as a citizen legislator. As a Congressman, he will lead by example and solicit input from constituents through open town hall meetings, on-site school forums, publicized neighborhood walks, and over the internet. This will get more people involved in the political process. By doing so, citizens will be less cynical about government and politicians in general. Thus, Nick will begin restoring the fabric of trust between the American people and their elected federal officials. Nick is currently a logistics/retail mananger for Mervyn's California Department Stores, a premier middle-market retailer and division of Target, Inc. (formerly Dayton Hudson Corporation). A native of Weirton, West Virginia, Nick is a former union steelworker. He moved to California in 1982 to pursue new career opportunities following the reorganization and down-sizing of Weirton Steel Division of National Steel Corporation (now Weirton Steel Company). Nick is an advocate of volunteerism and community service as well as parent participation in our schools. As an active community leader, he established and coordinated the Northern California Girl Scouts "Food For Children" Food Drive as a community service project of America's Promise--The Alliance For Youth. America's Promise, a national initiative under the direction of General Colin L. Powell USA (ret), strives to give our nation's young people opportunities to lead happy, healthy and productive lives. Nick has also been active in assisting with the Concord Salvation Army's Back-To-School Childspree Project, the Walnut Creek Jaycees Christmas Kids Shopping Tour, the United Way of the Bay Area's fundraising campaign, and the Junior Achievement Program. He served as a parent volunteer at Mountain View Elementary School, Cornerstone Family School, and Ygnacio Valley Elementary School. Nick was also the yearbook editor/chairman at said elementary schools from 1993 to 1999. Nick is the found and charter president of the Northern California Alumni Chapter of West Virginia University. He is a graduate of West Liberty State College, West Liberty, WV, with a B.S. degree in business management/administration. He also served as national co-chairman of the American Production & Inventory Control Society (APICS) 27th Annual Conference & Technical Exhibit. A past VP-Communications of the 3100-member APICS Santa Clara Valley Chapter, Nick was the editor of the APICS Silicon Valley Manufacturing News newsletter (Circulation: 10,000). A Roman Catholic, Nick is married to Karen (Frugoli) Mraovich and has three daughters--ages 12, 10 and 3. Both he and his wife are active in their children's public school education, sports activities and community service. The family resides in Concord. |
