Reduction of taxes

By James H. "Eric" Freedner

Candidate for Councilmember; Proposed City of San Fernando Valley; District 7

This information is provided by the candidate
The current Los Angeles business tax rate of almost $6 per thousand of business income is onerous and has driven businesses out of the Valley. I will work toward reducing that unpopular tax. Because of the "alimony" that must be paid by the Valley to the City of Los Angeles over the first ten years, it may not be possible to eliminate the business tax overnight, but I would press for an immediate reduction of the tax, with smaller reductions on an annual basis over the ten year period.

Income for the new city would come from permits (buildings, health and special events such as filming) and other sources of revenue such as fines. For example, I would support a civil penalty for such crimes as arson, where city fire suppression has been needed.

Also I would support the new city having a seat on the board of the Burbank Airport, thereby allowing the city to share in its decision-making and revenue.
