Phil Hannifin has worked in emergency medicine, preventive medicine, public health and continues to work as an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer. Upon his return from two tours in the United States Navy, Phil Hannifin graduated from Montana Tech of the University of Montana with a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health. Since then, he has been Certified by by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals; American Board of Industrial Hygiene; the Council on Certification of Health, Environmental, and Safety Technologists; and the Institute for Hazardous Materials Managers. Phil has also held a Real Estate License and License from the US Departement of Health and Human Services as a Rodent Quarantine Inspector. For 20 years, Phil Hannifin has always worked in a capacity of helping people and the environment and will continue to support the environmental, economic, and social sustainablity of the community. On February 24th, 1966, Phil was born in Butte, MT, to Daniel P.Hannifin (deceased 1969) and Patricia (Yadao) Hannifin. Having witnessed the mining activities and corporate destruction of his hometown, Phil has worked to cleanup environmental sites coast to coast, including the Unocal Avila Beach site. As a former Navy Hospital Corpsman, Gulf War Veteran, and disabled veteran, Phil continues to work with veterans to help obtain their benefits afforded to them as a result of their service to their country. Phil Hannifin works and consults to industry to ensure regulatory compliance with regard to environmental health and safety by recommending low cost, no cost solutions while maintaining environmental compliance and improving business vitality through cost avoidance. Now a long-time resident of San Luis Obispo, Phil can no longer watch as another community may be consumed unnecessarily and believes that economic vitality does not have to come at the expense of the environment or the residents of San Luis Obispo. Phil has a vision to ensure that the character of our community remains steadfast and grows at a reasonable rate without negatively impacting the existing business and residential communities.
