We've all seen the recent increase in crime - assaults in and around Memorial Park, robberies in the downtown, young adults loitering around the BART stations, gang graffiti. In some neighborhoods people are afraid to go out any time of day. If we are going to move this city forward we have to seriously confront this issue of crime. We can talk about bringing nice restaurants to the downtown and building new shopping centers but what good is it if people don't feel safe in their own neighborhoods? As your city councilman I will make police my number one budget priority and call for a stronger police presence in the neighborhoods. Our neighborhoods are our greatest asset and we need to restore respect and dignity to them.
