Both as an individual and as an integral part of the Town Council, I accomplished much over my first term, in the process always listening closely to my constituents and weighing their concerns carefully.
Specific accomplishments include:
- Keeping the town financially sound despite the current economic crisis, with a balanced budget and sufficient reserve to help pay expenses. This did require cutting back, some very limited layoffs and not filling open positions. These actions were difficult and often painful but they have paid off.
- Negotiating a two-tiered retirement plan with employees, helping to ensure the Town's solvency
- Seeing the Town and residents through recovery from the 2005 flood. Personally, serving on two flood committees, I have worked with Marin County and San Anselmo engineers to deal with the problem. In addition, I got my hands (literally) dirty, by participating in creek clean-ups and the town cleanup after the 2005 flood.
- Actively supporting San Anselmo businesses and encouraging others to do so, through "shopping locally" and other means
- Keeping the Town attuned to the future, moving in green directions, including joining Marin Clean Energy, voting to install electric car charging stations, passing a voluntary plastic bag ordinance, and installing solar panels in the renovation of the flood-damaged firehouse
- Working with the MMWD in completing the pipe replacement and street repaving on San Anselmo Avenue
- Supporting the maintenance of streets and other infrastructure, as available funds permitted, including the installation of Greenfield Avenue street lights and the development of Red Hill Park and the Dog Park
- Reworking Creek Park, making it a vastly improved public facility
- Supporting changes in the Building codes to limit the size of large homes and making it easier for home owners to make minor changes.
