Political Philosophy for John de Beck
Candidate for |
I accept the fact that the US Constitution is the ruling document for our government, and that the State Constitution is the ruling document for the state. I recognize that operating the school district requires adherence to both of these documents, and that the role of the San Diego Board of Education is to set local school policy that conforms to the constitutions and the educational and civil laws of the state of California. I believe in representative government and the right of citizens to have input into the decisions that affect them. I believe in their free speech rights, and mine as well. I am troubled by the attitude of some that a single issue is the reason to support or oppose a candidate. This is particularly true when the issue is constitutional, or legal, and is currently law. When I vote, I vote my conscience, and I reflect my core values. I expect that I will be consistent and that my record will portray the values I hold so that my constituents can determine whether or not the essence of my values cooincide with theirs. If I am expected to do what my contributors want, they will be only be disappointed when my values are different than theirs. If they are, then it is because they expected too much. I have to live with myself. |
