Safe learning, teaching and working environmentBy Brian O'NealCandidate for Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District; 4 Year Full Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
All District sites deserve to have a safe learning and working environment.I believe that all students, teachers and support staff have a right to a safe campus environment. This means safety from outside sources, potential facility danger and the campus population. Students, teachers and support staff come to their jobs every day (being a student is a job) expecting that they will be safe at the school site they are assigned to. It is incumbent upon the Board and the administration to ensure that this take place. On school sites, the District employs safety aids who patrol the grounds, making sure students are in their classrooms, reporting any dangerous situations and challenging unknown people. In addition to the safety aids, the site staff remains vigilant about these issues also. Over the last 10 years, great strides have taken place throughout the District to enhance school site security. Another aspect of a safe learning environment is educating students about the issue of bullying. The District has no tolerance for bullying, and the students are made aware of this throughout the year. The Board passed an anti-bullying policy (Board Policy 8701.01) at its August 16, 2012 meeting. |
