Rigorous and relevant curriculum geared toward 21st Century requirements are a mandatory element of today's education.If one reads about education today in the U.S., you will read that we are far behind world standards. Comparing what the schools in California are provided in funding to other areas, including other States, there is no wonder why we are lagging. However, in AUHSD, we are preparing students for the 21st century, and we are doing this with rigor. Students are being held to high standards, and test scores are improving. The District API scores have risen over 150 points since inception. The CAHSEE math and English, Language, Arts scores have risen District wide 38% and 15% respectively, and they will continue to rise as specialized teacher training matures in the classrooms. Teachers are provided with staff development time to collaborate with their peers to discuss and work on "best practices," and to develop curriculum maps and common assessments to better educate our students for the 21st century. Classrooms continue to be updated with new technology as our IT department applies for and receives funding grants to allow this to happen, even during these difficult budgetary times. |
